Hi! I’m Kate.
I was raised in Kerrville, Texas, and after years of bouncing from place to place and traveling far and wide, I’ve found my way back to the area with my little family. I loved growing up here. So much so, that my college friends used to joke that I was the Leslie Knope of the Texas Hill Country because I talked about it like it was the greatest place on earth.
I may have traded road trips, seasonal gigs, and far-off places for a more rooted family life, but I still believe getting out, exploring, and spending quality time together really matters. I’m just doing it now in the thick of mom life, where planning and executing outings with kids can feel overwhelming.

I started this because I believe the Texas Hill Country is an incredible place to raise a family, and because most of us don’t have the time, energy, or budget to constantly travel far away. My husband and I live on a budget. Big trips are not always realistic. Instead of waiting for someday, I want to help families make the most of where we already are. I also got tired of wading through Facebook events that don’t fit the vibe, multiple websites and calendar after calendar. So, I decided I am gonna create what I wish existed.
Think weekend outings, staycations, short day trips, and local events. Whether it’s the one thing you manage to do in a season or something you squeeze in between bigger trips, there is value here for every family and every budget.
This newsletter is not about doing everything. It exists to make it easier to get out of the house and enjoy where we live without overthinking it. My goal is to save you time by gathering the best family-friendly events happening across the nearby Hill Country towns in one place.
What to expect
Every Wednesday, you’ll get a Weekend Roundup that includes:
Local events
Simple outing ideas
Seasonal activities
Low-pressure ways to spend time together as a family
I’ll focus mainly on the heart of the Hill Country, including Boerne, Kerrville, Comfort, Fredericksburg, Johnson City, Marble Falls, and surrounding small towns. Most ideas fall within a 30 to 60 minute driving radius, depending on where you live. Close enough for a day trip with kids.
This won’t be a giant list of things to do in Austin, San Antonio, or along I-35. There are great accounts already covering those areas & that list can be miles long. My focus is the I-10 and Highway 281 corridors. That said, if there’s something I genuinely love or think is worth the drive, like a great museum event or a standout seasonal experience, I’ll mention it from time to time.
The weekly roundups will be to the point & zero fluff. Just the facts, without opinions or long reviews. The goal is to help you glance at your best options and make quick decisions without wading through about of chatter.
Most importantly, it is one email a week. Never more. I have no desire to flood your inbox.
Down the road, subscribers can opt into deeper guides, expanded weekly roundups with more detail, additional posts like staycation ideas, day trip itineraries, honest comparisons, age-specific insights, or seasonal planning. Or just head to the site on their own time to see what else might interest them.
If this sounds like a good fit, I’d love for you to subscribe and follow along. And if you know another family who’s always asking what to do with their kids, please share this with them. Subscribing and sharing are a meaningful way to support my work, and I appreciate every one of you.
Let’s make the most of the season we’re in and the place we live.
